HOW YOUR PLEDGES AND DONATIONS ARE USED

The Education/Administration Fund
Small Change is MOST SUSTAINED BY THE FAITHFUL SUPPORT OF PLEDGERS AND PATRONS WHO DONATE ON A MONTHLY, QUARTERLY, OR YEARLY BASIS TO THIS FUND, WHICH IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF SMALL CHANGE. This fund pays for all of the expenses of running our non-profit. (If we were a church, which we are NOT, this would be equivalent to the “general operations” fund that keeps a church going on a daily basis). Without your support of this fund, Small Change simply wouldn’t exist. When donating to this fund, PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE “ED/ADMIN” ON THE MEMO LINE of your tax-deductible check made out to “Small Change.”

The Hunger Fund: O.R.S. (Oral Rehydration Salt Packets) and Beyond
The first priority of the Hunger Fund is supplying O.R.S. packets in emergency situations where people are dying because of severe dehydration.  In these situations, people are so dehydrated that their bodies CANNOT ABSORB water and simple nutrients needed to keep them alive.  O.R.S. packet ingredients are designed so that they CAN BE ABSORBED when they are dissolved in water and given to a severely dehydrated person.   After the O.R.S. are absorbed into a person’s tissues, they are able to absorb water and nutrients that can save their lives.  These people cannot live on O.R.S., but they cannot live without them.

When O.R.S. salt packets aren’t urgently needed, we supply other low-cost, high-impact emergency relief items such as water purification tablets, water filters, “jerry cans” for transporting water, high protein food wafers, and seeds and seedlings to help people living in poverty to grow their own food.  (10% of CD sales is also used for seeds).  If you or your family, or your organization or church is collecting small change specifically for O.R.S. ONLY,  PLEASE write “O.R.S.” on the memo line of your check.

If you want to direct your donation to physical hunger relief ONLY, or if you are writing a check to Small Change for the “small change” you or your group have been saving for hunger relief, PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE “HUNGER” ON THE MEMO LINE. (If we were a church, which we are NOT, this would be the equivalent of the “overseas mission fund” or “humanitarian relief” fund.) Please KNOW that EVERY CENT you donate to this fund is used ONLY for direct relief of physical hunger.

Micro-Loans
This fund supplies small loans for small family businesses to help them be self-sufficient and feed their families. This money is “re-cycled,” as when one loan is repaid, the money is used for another loan to another family. We currently have $10,000 at work supporting a women’s cooperative in Nicaragua among other things. PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE “MICRO-LOANS” ON THE MEMO LINE.

CD Project
Don continues to make progress on his next CD project, “Poems of the father, Songs of the son.”  He has completed recording many of the songs  and as more funds become available he will record the remaining songs to complete the CD.  PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE “CD PROJECT” ON THE MEMO LINE OF YOUR CHECK.

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT SMALL CHANGE

  • saving your small change (pennies, nickels, dimes). Remember that for every 10 cents you save, you will be providing an oral rehydration packet that will help save the life of a starving person. ALL of the small change you save will be used only for hunger relief. How to donate your small change? Options:
    • Put it in your checking account and send a check to Small Change.
    • Bring it with you when you attend any presentation by Don Eaton.
    • If you are in the Santa Fe, NM area, call us and we’ll come and pick it up!
  • becoming an individual sponsor by making a monthly pledge. Small change needs help with a variety of program costs and help in providing a minimum monthly base of support for the executive director as he spreads the seeds of the Small Change vision for a more compassionate world. We deeply appreciate pledges large and small and suggest a minimum of $10 per month.
  • making a one time donation.
  • buying CD’s (“Seed-D’s”). CDs make wonderful and meaningful gifts for the holidays or any time. We receive letters from people who give CD’s to friends and family because they want them to hear a particular song or lyric that has touched them. One person gives the “Seeds of Peace” CD to people because he says the song “No Frames, No Boundaries” “perfectly summarizes my spiritual/political beliefs and the need to include ALL people and nations in our circle of compassion.” You can hear 30 second samples of my songs by going to http://www.cdbaby.com and entering Don Eaton as the artist’s name. You can also download single songs or an entire CD. You can also visit our website and click on the “Music” link to see all available CD’s, including my NEWEST RELEASE, “SINCE YOU ASKED”. Please remember that 10% of the profits from CD sales is used to provide seeds (thus the “Seed-Ds” idea) to people living in poverty in “third-world” countries so that they can grow their own crops. Each CD you purchase provides a family of four with enough seeds to grow their own food for one year.
  • purchasing sheet music. I AM ONE VOICE, HOPE OF HUMANITY, PEACE IS A’COME and JOY AND WOE are now available.
  • sponsoring a House Concert. Ask a group of people to gather in your home or a friend’s home for an “up close and personal” concert with Don. We suggest a minimum of 10 people. You can talk with Don about what feels like a comfortable donation per person for your event. During the concert Don will briefly introduce Small Change and it’s mission to the group. Contact Don directly at eatonsong@aol.com or by phone at (505) 474-4742 to discuss the details of setting up this memorable evening.
  • helping to arrange bookings for Don and Small Change. Don does concerts (including BENEFIT CONCERTS), keynote addresses, motivational talks, workshops, retreats, seminars, worship services (music and message) for colleges, universities, churches, events and conferences. If you have a connection with an organization or group in your area you can help arrange a booking for Don. He can supply you with appropriate reviews introducing him to your group.
  • helping secure grants, donations and corporate sponsorships. Would your company, business, workplace be open to inviting Don to present Small Change’s mission? Imagine what one company, business, office or church group could do if people started saving their “small change.” One church has donated over $12,000 for O.R.S. packets over the last several years!
  • including Small Change in wills and bequests
  • AND, keeping Small Change and our mission in your thoughts, prayers, and meditations.
